How to install NowSignage app onto Vestel System On Chip (SoC) devices

To install NowSignage on Vestel SoC displays, you’ll need the following:

- Remote control

- Wired or wireless network connection

- USB external storage device with the NowSignage APK

 

Step-by-Step Installation

1. Download the NowSignage APK  

   Download the APK file for Vestel from this link: [NowSignage APK for Vestel](https://cdn.nowsignage.com/android/5.0.16-expo-av.apk).

2. Prepare the USB Drive

   Add the downloaded APK file to the root directory of your USB drive.

3. Insert USB Drive

   Insert the USB drive into the USB port of the Vestel display.

4. Connect the Display to the Network  

   Using the remote control, press the 'Menu' button. Navigate to 'Network & Internet' and connect the display to a network (either wired or wireless).

5. Open the Application Menu  

   Press 'Exit' on the remote, and you'll see 4 options/icons. Select 'Applications'.

6. Install the APK

   Select 'AppInstaller' and choose the option to Scan the USB drive. Locate the NowSignage APK and press 'Ok' on the remote. Select Install, then 'Open' to launch the NowSignage app.

7. Activate the Screen 

   Once the NowSignage app launches, enter your unique screen PIN (available in your NowSignage dashboard). Press 'Activate Screen' to connect to NowSignage servers and download the scheduled content.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Recommended Display Reboot Setup

To ensure the best possible performance, it is advisable to reboot Vestel Android SoC displays on a daily basis. This practice helps to mitigate any potential lag in content playback.

 

Steps to Set Up A Daily Reboot:

1. Press 'Menu' on the remote.

2. Go to Signage Settings > Scheduler Settings.

3. In Plan 1, set a daily reboot time (e.g., 'Off Time' 00:00, 'On Time' 00:01 for a midnight reboot).

4. Choose the days for the reboot (we recommend 7 days a week).

5. Ensure Plan Enable is turned on, then save the schedule.

 


NOTE: Sometimes, A device can take a little longer to fully connect to the network. We suggest waiting 2-3 minutes when rebooting the device, since the PIN will try to automatically activate every 60 seconds.

NowSignage App Troubleshooting

 

Issue: 'ENCOUNTERED AND UNKNOWN ERROR COMMUNICATING WITH NOWSIGNAGE'

 

Possible Causes: (in order of relevance)

1. There is no internet or network connection to the device.

2. Date/time is incorrectly set on the device.

3. The app could not communicate with the NowSignage API.

4. The PIN code is not associated with a Screen

 

Solutions:

1. Ensure the device has a working internet connection, use the device's web browser or other internet-based apps to confirm connectivity.

2. Go into the date/time settings and set it to the current correct date/time.

3. Ensure the requests are not being blocked by a corporate firewall. Please see our firewall rules guidance.

4. Ensure the correct PIN code has been added by verifying within the NowSignage platform. (check for additional character spaces entered in error)
