How To Set Up Content Triggers In NowSignage
Content Triggers allow you to remotely broadcast specific content (images, videos or playlists) to selected screens using trigger commands. This guide walks you through setting everything up from scratch.
Step 1 – Install the Content Triggers app
-
Log in to your NowSignage account.
-
Go to the Apps area.
-
Select Content Triggers.
-
If this is your first time using it, you will see an Install option. Click this to complete setup.
Step 2 – Create your commands
Commands are the triggers that will send content to screens.
-
In the Content Triggers app, choose Commands.
-
Click Create new command.
-
Give the command a name and key.
-
Example:
-
Name:
Images -
Key:
sends image playlist to screen
-
-
-
Save the command.
Each command acts as an instruction that later links to content.
Step 3 – Create a trigger group
A trigger group defines which screens will receive commands/content.
-
Select Groups.
-
Click Create group.
-
Name the group (for example: “Reception Screens”).
-
You will see two optional settings:
-
Screen auto-enrollment
-
When enabled, any new screens added in the future will automatically join this group.
-
-
Allow manual broadcast to all screens
-
When enabled, users can broadcast a trigger to every screen in the group with one action.
-
-
The above permissions are strictly for users with the account 'Owner' role only
-
Select the screens you want in this group by clicking the + icon next to each screen.
-
To remove a screen, click the – icon.
-
Click Save when finished.
Step 4 – Create trigger rules
Trigger rules link commands to content.
-
After saving your group, you will see the option to Create trigger rules.
-
Click Add trigger rule.
-
From the dropdown:
-
Select the command you created earlier.
-
Then choose the content to trigger:
-
Image - (this option allows you to set the duration for the image)
-
Video - (the duration is auto filled based on the video duration)
-
Playlist - (the duration is auto filled based on the playlist duration)
-
-
-
Optional setting:
-
Keep content playing on screen
-
If ticked: the selected playlist will continue playing and will not return to the default schedule after finishing. It will remain active until a new trigger is sent.
-
-
-
Click Create to save the rule.
Step 5 – Manage and edit trigger rules
Once rules are created, you will see:
-
A list of screens in the group.
-
Options on the right side to:
-
Broadcast the trigger to selected screens.
-
Edit a rule (pencil icon).
-
Delete a rule (bin icon).
-
You can add more rules at any time by selecting Add trigger rule.
Step 6 – Manage your trigger group
