A basic guide explaining how to fully power off a Firestick to ensure the NowSignage app auto-boots correctly upon restart:
When a Firestick is only put into standby mode, it doesn’t fully power down, and this can interfere with the automatic startup of certain apps, like NowSignage. Here’s what you need to know and do to fully turn off your Firestick and ensure the app launches properly when you restart it.
Understanding Standby Mode vs. Full Power Off
- Standby Mode: When the Firestick is in standby mode, it is partially powered down but not completely off. This means that when it “wakes up,” it returns to the main Firestick menu rather than auto-starting an app like NowSignage.
- Full Power Off: Fully powering off your Firestick cuts all power to the device. When you turn it back on, it will start from a completely off state, allowing any auto-boot apps (like NowSignage) to start automatically.
Why Full Power Off Helps Auto-Boot Apps
Certain apps, such as NowSignage, are designed to auto-launch after a complete power cycle. A power cycle happens only when the Firestick is fully shut down, not just placed in standby. Therefore, to make sure NowSignage starts automatically, you need to power off your Firestick completely.
How to Fully Turn Off Your Firestick
To ensure that your Firestick is fully turned off, you can do one of the following:
1. Unplug from Power: (recommended)
- Unplug the Firestick from its power source, either by unplugging it from the wall outlet or removing the USB power cable from the device.
- Wait a few seconds, then plug it back in to restart it. This will allow NowSignage (or any other auto-boot app) to start up after the device powers on.
2. Using the Firestick Remote:
- While there is no dedicated “Power Off” option on the remote, you can hold down the “Home” button for a few seconds and select “Sleep” to put it into standby mode.
Important: Putting it into “Sleep” mode is not the same as powering it off completely. For a true power-off, unplugging from power is the most effective option.
Steps to Ensure Auto-Boot Apps Launch
1.Unplug the Firestick from the power source.
2.Wait 10-15 seconds.
3.Plug it back in to allow the device to start up.
4.Wait a few minutes for NowSignage (or other auto-boot apps) to launch automatically.
This simple power-off method will ensure that NowSignage is triggered to start after the Firestick is fully powered on again.
