How To Deactivate A Screen Pin

How to deactivate a PIN from one screen for use on another screen.

Overview

After a screen PIN is entered into a device, it becomes active and associated with that device. The PIN can only be altered or removed once it is deactivated in your NowSignage account.

⚠️IMPORTANT:⚠️

The procedure depends on the device and app version in use.

Deactivation in the CMS is supported from version 5 onwards.

If the deactivation option is not visible as outlined in Step 1, please follow the alternative instructions detailed in Point 2 below.

1. Deactivating a Screen Pin in NowSignage

Follow these steps to deactivate a screen pin:

  • Log in to your NowSignage account.
  • Navigate to the project where your screen is located.
  • Go to the Screens section.
  • Locate the screen associated with the pin.
  • Edit the screen by either clicking on its name or selecting the pencil icon.
  • Click on the 'Actions' button in the top right corner.
  • Select 'Deactivate' from the dropdown menu.
  • A confirmation message will appear indicating that the PIN has been deactivated.

Once deactivated, the PIN is no longer associated with that device.

Android Devices:

If you wish to deactivate the PIN on an Android device:

  • First, deactivate the PIN in your NowSignage account following the steps above.
  • On the device, clear the app cache and data before entering the new PIN.

2. Device-Specific Instructions to Deactivate a Screen PIN.

  • Uninstall the NowSignage app from the device by following the specific instructions provided for your device model. - This action ensures the application cache is fully cleared.
  • Reinstall the NowSignage app on the device and enter the required screen PIN to connect a new device.

FAQ

PIN Security and Types
There are two types of Screen PIN used within NowSignage:
1. Alpha/Numeric PIN

  • An 8-character alpha/numeric PIN.
  • Each PIN is single-use.
  • Once activated, the PIN becomes locked to the specific screen it was used to provision.
  • A PIN cannot subsequently be reused to provision another screen.

2. Auto-Provisioning PIN

  • Auto-provisioning PINs are generated based on the screen's hardware.
  • The PIN is unique to the individual device.
  • Each PIN is therefore tied to a specific piece of hardware and cannot be used to provision another device.
  • This provides an additional layer of security by ensuring that a device's provisioning credentials are unique to that device.

Important: Once a PIN has been activated, it cannot be reused or transferred to another screen. If a new screen needs to be provisioned, a new PIN must be generated or obtained as appropriate.
