Before You Start

Ensure the following:

  • The TV is connected to the internet (Ethernet preferred).

  • The TV is running the latest firmware version.

  • You have access to your NowSignage CMS account.

Step-by-Step Setup

Step 1: Prepare the Screen in the CMS

  1. Log in to the NowSignage CMS.

  2. Create a new screen, or select an existing one.

  3. Open Tag Manager, create an access tag called 'Sony', and assign the tag to the screens you wish to set up RDM on. Please note, if you have multiple users in your account, please also ensure they have the 'sony' access tag assigned to them so they will be able to see the screens after the tag is applied.

  4. Go to the Apps section and ensure the Remote Device Manager app is installed.

Step 2: Find the MAC Address on Your TV

  1. On the Sony TV, press the Home button on your remote.

  2. Navigate to:

    SettingsNetwork & InternetNetwork Status.

  3. Make note of the MAC address shown on screen (you will need this to register the device in NowSignage).

Format it using dashes (e.g., 00-1A-79-XX-XX-XX).

Step 3: Register the Device in NowSignage

  1. In the NowSignage CMS, go to the Remote Device Manager app.

  2. Find your screen (filtered by the Sony tag).

  3. Click the dropdown (...) next to your screen and select Register device.

  4. Enter the MAC address (in uppercase with dashes) and click Confirm.

Step 4: Check Firmware & Factory Reset the TV

  1. On the Sony TV remote, press Home.

  2. Navigate to:

    SettingsSystemAboutSystem Software UpdateSoftware Update

  3. The TV will check for updates and install the latest version if available.

  4. Once the firmware is up to date, navigate to:

           SettingsSystemAboutResetFactory data reset

     5. Confirm the reset to erase all data from the TV.

Step 5: Complete Onboarding on the TV

  1. After rebooting, proceed through the setup process until a QR code and a 6-digit one-time code appears on screen.

  2. In the NowSignage CMS, a prompt will appear to enter this code. Input the code and click Confirm.

If the prompt closes, you can reopen it via the Actions dropdown next to your screen in the CMS.

Step 6: Wait for the NowSignage CMS to Complete Provisioning

The screen will automatically:

  • Install the NowSignage Player app.
  • Register an Access Key
  • Connect the device to your account.

This step may take a few minutes. Please do not power off the device or disconnect from the internet.

Step 7: Final Device Setup

  1. Once the TV restarts, press Home on the remote.

  2. Go to:

    AppsNowSignage

(Run it once manually to set up automatic launch on startup.)

  3. You may see a prompt for “Display over other apps”:

    • Scroll down, select NowSignage, and enable this setting.

Your Sony Bravia display is now fully integrated with NowSignage. Remote management features—including power, volume, reboot, and mute controls—are available directly through your CMS.

Sending RDM Commands from the CMS

Once your Sony Bravia screens are registered and set up with Remote Device Manager (RDM), you can send remote control commands directly from the NowSignage CMS.

To send commands:

  1. Log in to your NowSignage CMS.

  2. Go to the Remote Device Manager app.

  3. Locate your Sony screen(s) in the list (ensure they’ve been registered and are online).

  4. Click the dropdown menu (⋯) next to the screen name.

  5. From the dropdown, select the desired RDM command, such as:

    • Power on/off

    • Reboot screen

    • Adjust volume

    • Mute/unmute

    • APK Update

These actions are performed instantly (if the screen is online) and help manage screens without needing physical access.

Please note the 'apk update' command may take a few minutes to upload and then download onto the screen.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. After completing the factory reset (Step 5), the QR code or One-Time Code doesn’t appear on the TV. What should I do?

This usually means the TV is not running the correct firmware version that supports the RDM feature.

To update the firmware on the Sony Bravia TV:

  1. On your remote, press Home.

  2. Go to Settings > System > About > System Software Update > Software Update.

  3. The TV will now check for updates and install the latest firmware (if available).

  4. Once updated, restart the setup process, and the One-Time Code should appear after the reset.

2. Are there any firewall or network requirements for using RDM with Sony Bravia?

Yes. Since this integration uses a cloud-based API, the data flow works as follows:

NowSignage CMS ➝ Sony Cloud API ➝ Sony Display

  • NowSignage does not communicate directly with your screen for the RDM commands.

  • All commands and provisioning actions are processed by Sony’s Cloud API, which then interacts with your device.

For firewall configuration, network whitelisting, and security details, please refer to Sony’s official white paper:

If you’re operating behind strict firewall rules, ensure that Sony’s cloud endpoints are whitelisted according to Sony’s documentation.
