How Serial-Number Auto-Provisioning Works
When the NowSignage app is launched for the first time on a supported device running version 5.3.41 onwards (BrightSign Installation Guide), it will automatically read the device’s serial number and enter it into the PIN field to enable auto-provisioning.
How the process works:
- Create the screen in the CMS: Create the screen in NowSignage using the device’s serial number as its PIN. This must be completed before installing the application.
- Install NowSignage: Install and launch the application on the supported device.
- Automatic PIN entry: The application reads the device’s serial number and automatically enters it into the PIN field.
- PIN validation and activation: The application checks the entered PIN against the PINs configured in the NowSignage CMS. If a matching PIN exists, the device can activate against the corresponding screen and begin downloading its assigned content and schedule.
Please note: Auto-provisioning requires custom serial-number PINs to be configured in the NowSignage CMS before installation. This feature is typically intended for large-scale deployments where multiple devices need to be provisioned efficiently.
For standard users: The application may still display the device’s serial number in the PIN entry field by default. If serial-number auto-provisioning has not been configured for your deployment, delete the pre-filled serial number and manually enter the standard PIN associated with your project.
PIN Security and Re-provisioning
Each screen PIN must be unique within NowSignage and cannot be used to provision multiple screens. A serial-number PIN therefore identifies the screen configured for that specific device.
If the PIN is deactivated or the application returns to the PIN entry screen, the device will attempt the auto-provisioning process again by reading its serial number and checking for a matching PIN in the CMS. If the matching PIN is available and valid, the device can attempt to reactivate.
If no matching PIN is found, or activation fails, check that the screen has been created with the correct serial number and that its PIN is configured correctly in the CMS.
⚠️ Please note: Auto-provisioning is enabled via the Mass Screen Deploy tool.
