NowSignage Licence Packs – FAQ
What is a licence pack?
In NowSignage, a licence pack is a bundle of screen licences delivered under a single code.
When redeemed, all licences in the pack are added to one project and can then be assigned individually to screens. Each licence supports one screen and only becomes active once applied.
By default, licence packs are issued as a whole, not split across multiple projects.
How are licence packs issued?
Licence packs are issued as a single unit by default. This means all licences within a pack are grouped together and provided under one pack code at the point of delivery.
If a different structure is required (e.g. splitting licences across multiple projects), this must be requested at the point of order so the Orders team can prepare this accordingly.
What happens when I redeem a licence pack?
When you redeem a licence pack:
- The pack is added to a single project
- All licences within that pack become available within that project only
- Licences will appear as unassigned (pending) until applied to screens
- Licence pack codes are valid for 12 months from the date they are received
Once added, the licences are effectively “contained” within that project and are not automatically shared across others.
Can licences be shared across multiple projects?
Not by default.
NowSignage licences are tied to the project they are redeemed into. If you are operating multiple projects and need licences distributed between them, this must be:
- Defined before purchase, or
- Requested at the point of order
This allows the Orders team to split the licence packs appropriately before issuing them.
Licence Splitting & Assignment
In NowSignage, licence splitting refers to the process of separating a purchased licence pack into multiple smaller packs so they can be used across different projects.
Licence packs can be prepared for multiple projects at order stage, however once a pack is assigned, all licences within that pack are committed to a single project.
If licences need to be distributed across multiple projects, the correct process is:
- Redeem the licence code into Account Stock first
- From there, allocate individual licences into the relevant projects as required
- This ensures licences are correctly distributed rather than grouped into one project by default
Can licences be moved between projects later?
No, this is not something that can be self-managed within the platform.
Licence allocation is controlled at the account/order level. Any changes to where licences sit would require intervention from the Orders team and may not always be possible depending on the setup.
How are licences assigned to screens?
After redeeming a pack:
- Licences sit in the project as available
- You assign a licence to a screen via the Screens dashboard
- Once applied, the licence:
- Becomes active
- Generates a unique screen PIN
- Starts its subscription period
Each licence is used on a per-screen (endpoint) basis, meaning one licence supports one media player or display
When does a licence start?
A licence only begins its term once it is activated on a screen, not when the pack is redeemed
This allows you to stage deployments without immediately consuming licence time.
Can I manage multiple licences on one screen?
Yes. NowSignage supports licence queuing, allowing you to:
- Apply a licence to a screen
- Queue additional licences to automatically activate after expiry
This ensures continuous playback without downtime
Can I activate licences in bulk?
Yes. Using Mass Management, authorised users can:
- Activate licences across multiple screens simultaneously
- Apply licences at scale for larger deployments (knowledgebase.nowsignage.com)
What should I consider before ordering licence packs?
To avoid rework or delays, confirm:
- How many projects you will be using
- How licences should be distributed across those projects
- Whether any packs need to be split before delivery
If this is not defined upfront, all licences will typically be issued together and applied to a single project.
Important Behaviour to Be Aware Of
- Redeeming a licence pack may take a moment to process
- Users should refresh the page after redemption to confirm the licences have been added
- If the page is not refreshed, it may appear as though the redemption has failed
- Attempting to redeem the same code again will result in an invalid code message, as the licences will already have been consumed
Mass Queueing Licences
NowSignage also supports licence queueing, allowing multiple licences to be staged against a screen in advance.
This means:
- Licences can be lined up for future activation
- When one licence expires, the next automatically takes over
- This helps maintain continuous playback without manual intervention
Mass Licence Management & Queuing
NowSignage supports mass licence management, allowing licences to be assigned and queued at scale.
This includes:
Queueing multiple licences to a single screen for continuous renewal
Automatically activating the next licence when the current one expires
Filtering licences by renewal date to easily manage upcoming expiries
Supporting renewal planning and bulk licence assignment across large estates
This is particularly useful for managing renewals across multiple screens, ensuring continuity without manual intervention.
